Volunteer in Austria

Landlocked in the heart of Europe, Austria is home to 8.7 million people. The majority of the country is shaped by the extensive Alps mountain range, to the north is the Danube Valley, and to the east are steppe-like plains that lead into bordering Hungary. Due to its location, Austria has a moderate climate with warm summers and winters that are rich with snow. The weather and terrain of the country make it a great destination for hiking and skiing. Austrian culture draws heavily from Germany but, that does not define the unique society. Austria boasts a wide variety of historical architecture, music, art and literature, and much, much more.

Volunteers work with children in local daycare, kindergarten, or private schools. In the daycares, children are being developed to appreciate education and their unique learning styles. Other daycares focus not just on children’s natural desire to learn but also, their understanding and role of the environment or creative and active personalities. Volunteers should be enthusiastic in their work with children and open to music, the arts, and nature. Each project allows for volunteers to utilize her or his own skills and talents but, you should also be prepared to help with all routine work.

Volunteers can work in a youth program, home for individuals with developmental disabilities or a children’s group. The main goal os this quest is to promote empathy and open-mindedness. Volunteers should be motivated to work with people hands-on and be proactive in their approach to working and learning.

Visit the capital city of Vienna, where you can go to Imperial palaces including Schonbrunn. The city lies in the eastmost part of the country along the Danube River and, is a hub for intellectual and artistic legends like Mozart and Frued.

Visit the old town of Klosterneuburg near Vienna. The small town has the most impressive monastery and is surrounded by the vast Vienna Woods, which are perfect for hiking and outdoor adventures.

The Wachau Valley is an Austrian gem. The land of rolling hills and vineyards is also a historical agricultural site recognized by UNESCO in 2000.

Austrian Wiener Schnitzel is a traditional dish prepared with veal. Though it is hard to prove whether the delicate meat dish originated in Germany or Austria there, is one important difference. German Schnitzel is made with pork. Schnitzel is a must-try among meat-eaters visiting the country.
