Volunteer in Nepal

Serene, breathtaking, and captivating, volunteers in Nepal are immersed in a vibrant culture. Most famous for Mt. Everest, but brimming with hundreds of other remarkable sites, Nepal will capture your heart and soul with its generous people and customs. Nepalis are known for cooking hearty, flavorful meals and for greeting others with the traditional “Namaste.” In Nepal, volunteers are sought as teaching assistants at local schools, or, through an NGO partner, to work with the most vulnerable people in a nearby rural community.

Work directly with children in​ local schools in Kathmandu or Pokhara​. Most of the activities focus on educational training for the children, including assisting in English classes. Volunteers also ​assist with leading group activities and creating plans and materials for the students. Volunteer can also participate in drawing, painting,​ games, sports, and other creative ​and outdoor ​activities for the children’s development.

Work with a grass roots organization that seeks to provide basic needs and human rights to prisoners and their children; one of the most vulnerable groups in Nepal. Specifically, this organization works within under-served, rural communities where their support creates new opportunities for women, who have been released from prison, and their children. Volunteers may be a part of the organization’s education, youth mentoring, women’s support, or alternative learning programs.

Tour the monastery and experience its peaceful surroundings. While you are there, you can learn more about the principles of Buddhist meditation through introductory courses held at the monastery.

This is one of the four towers built in Durbar Square, Kathmandu. The views of the city from the top of the tower are unlike any other.

Go to Pokhara and see the second-largest lake in Nepal. Fewa Lake is very placid and is a perfect place to relax by the shore. While you’re there, take the opportunity to visit the Varahi temple nearby.

Bhaktapur was founded in the 1300s and has ancient temples and monasteries for you to explore. While in the city, you can take part in one of the many festivals celebrated there, like Dashain – which lasts for 15 days!
