The Malay people, who are native to the Philippines, are known for their welcoming sense of camaraderie and kinship. Both Spanish and Chinese influences are strong as well, cultivating an island tradition like none other. You can expect to feel unbound by the constraints of time as the locals relax and celebrate. Find yourself memorized by the baroque churches of the Philippines. These architectural sculptures were influenced by both the Spanish and the Chinese. But, they are especially unique in that they were adapted to by the climate in the area.

Named after King Philip II of Spain who ruled from 1556 to 1598 the Philippines have a unique history. After bouts of revolution and turmoil they were the first country in Southeast Asia to gain independence after World War II. Much of this history can be learned through the culture and customs.

The Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras are a picturesque view of culture come together. The land epitomizes knowledge passed from generation to generation and the perseverance of strong tradition.

Due to varying airline prices, United Planet does not arrange or cover the cost of flights to and from the Philippines. However, we arrange all ground transportation to and from the airport in the Philippines and will ensure that you arrive safely at orientation. Volunteers should arrive on Mondays to Friday before 10 pm.
