Volunteer Abroad in Argentina

From coffee to tango, Argentina conjures images as diverse as the people who inhabit this vast region. Argentina is a complex country, made up of 24 provinces in South America. Buenos Aires, its cultural capital, is largely characterized by both the prevalence of people with European descent and conscious imitation of European styles in architecture. The gauchos and their traditional country lifestyle of self-reliance also influence in the country greatly, as do the traditions of the indigenous peoples (like yerba mate infusions), which have been absorbed into the general culture. As a volunteer here, expect no end to opportunities for outdoor adventure (think Andes Mountains), nightlife, and cultural history.

United Planet is the US and Canadian partner of the International Cultural Youth Exchange, or ICYE. As a volunteer in Argentina, you will be hosted by Subir al Sur, ICYE’s Argentinean partner organization. Their program promotes education for peace and intercultural understanding.

United Planet also offers mid-term (4 weeks to 16 weeks) volunteer programs in Argentina.  Learn more about all of our volunteer programs in Latin and South America.

Project Information

Community Development

Volunteers assist with the administration duties of local (usually non-profit) institutions. Help promote the organization through social gatherings, cultural activities, or through other communication platforms. Volunteers may be directly assisting executives, working with the ICYE affiliate, or leading a department.

Education

Volunteers will work with youth at community center focused on supporting the lives of young people. These organizations provide a space for young people to meet, engage in recreation, and form intercultural relationships. While there volunteers provide after school support including, tutoring, social intervention, and organizing events.

Environment

Promote sustainable living by volunteering to produce vegetables and practice composting. You will educate the community on these techniques and stimulate awareness for the need of sustainable farming.

About Our Quest Fee

We want you to succeed. That means having in place the support our volunteers need. We don’t just drop you in country and hope for the best. We provide training before you leave … language exposure … 24/7 in-country support … support for your host family … accommodations, meals and airport transportation … activities and excursions. The whole idea is to make the experience successful and productive for you and the host community, and we have found that these things are crucial. Remember that we are a non-profit, mission-driven organization – we wouldn’t spend money on something that wasn’t important.
