About the Scholarship and United Planet
This year, United Planet is pleased to provide three special global opportunities:
- One merit-based scholarship for an inducted student member of each chapter within every ACHS member society per calendar year in the amount of $500 (for any United Planet international program in one of over 35 countries)
- Five merit-based scholarships for alumni in every ACHS society per calendar year in the amount of $500 (for any United Planet international program in one of over 35 countries)
- Preferred program fees and support for chapter, society-wide, and alumni groups
United Planet realizes that global social responsibility comes with global leadership and seeks to empower the best and brightest students with the global skills and perspectives to act as leaders beyond borders of all kinds.
United Planet is an international non-profit organization, headquartered in Boston, devoted to building a global network of leaders and volunteers which fosters cross-cultural understanding and addresses shared global challenges through immersive international service, internships, and cross-cultural collaboration. The underlying principle of our programs is the concept of Relational Diplomacy — recognizing that the relationships between people of diverse backgrounds are the basic building blocks for uniting the world.
United Planet has been featured throughout international media, and CNN selected us as one of only ten nonprofits in the world for their “Be the Change” initiative. We have developed strong relationships with universities around the country. A few of our long-standing partners include: University of Notre Dame, Louisiana State University, and University of Idaho. These partnerships take on various forms depending on the needs and interests of the schools.
International Quest Programs
Since 2001, United Planet has provided colleges and universities with short-term (1 week to 3 month), long-term (6 month and one year) bridge year, and customized group volunteer programs in over 35 countries focusing on education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. While abroad, individuals and groups participate in local community projects and internships while becoming immersed in new cultures through home stays, language practice, cultural activities and excursions. United Planet prides itself on developing personalized programs to match each student’s unique interests and learning goals, as well as comprehensive safety and risk management policies and complete cultural immersion.
United Planet will award the ACHS scholarships on a first come, first serve basis to one member from each ACHS chapter and up to five alumni of each ACHS member society. The scholarship will be applied toward each recipient’s overall Quest cost. No funds will be paid directly to scholarship recipients.
