United Planet offers International Alternative Winter Break volunteer opportunities all over the world, immersing you in local culture as you do your part to create a global community. China Teaching Quest
Age: 18 +
Program Length: 2 – 4 weeks
Customized start dates!
Help teach English to local Chinese students at an elementary school or middle school in Changsha. Volunteers with past teaching experience and those who express interest will have the opportunity to teach independently. Volunteers can expect to work Monday-Friday for 35-40 hours a week. No teaching experience is needed, but a positive attitude and flexibility are required.
Nepal Orphanage Quest
Age: 18 +
Program Length: 1 – 4 weeks
Customized start dates!
Help out at a local orphanage in Kathmandu. As a volunteer, you’ll tend to the basic needs of the children, who range in age from 4 months to 13 years. Volunteers with a medical background and proper certification may provide basic treatment to the children. Volunteers may also assist the older children with homework, English, arts and crafts, or other educational activities.
Ecuador Healthcare Quest
Age: 18 +
Program Length: 2 – 4 weeks
Customized start dates!
Recommended for volunteers that have a background in the healthcare field or who are studying medicine. Volunteer in a state-run hospital in Quito that provides both primary care services and emergency medicine to impoverished communities. Volunteers may take medically-focused Spanish classes and also have the opportunity to focus their work in the occupational therapy or elderly care departments of the clinic if desired. Volunteer tasks will vary depending on level of medical expertise and Spanish ability. Please note that the primary task for students is observation.
Ghana Healthcare Quest
Age: 18 +
Program Length: 2 – 4 weeks
Customized start dates!
Work at a teaching hospital in the city of Ho or at a Community-Based Health Planning Services center in the rural village of Putubiw. Observation is the primary focus for students; however, depending on skill level and knowledge, you may assist with basic tasks such as checking patients’ vitals, dressing wounds, removing stitches, and more. This Quest is a fantastic opportunity to learn how an international healthcare system functions.
