Long-Term Volunteer Pre-Departure Training Weekend 2013 – A Great Success!

August 6, 2013Andrea Shapiro

As you may know, United Planet’s long-term volunteers travel abroad to countries all over the world to live and volunteer for six months or one year. A few weeks ago, our most recent group of long-term volunteers gathered at a retreat in Rindge, NH for their pre-departure training weekend!

During the training weekend, the volunteers met with United Planet staff to discuss what it’s like to live and work in another country, deal with culture shock, stay safe and healthy while abroad, and much more. And the weekend wasn’t all practical training – the volunteers also participated in team-building activities, did some yoga, played music, and had plenty of free time to enjoy their beautiful surroundings.

We think that pictures often speak louder than words – check out a few of the snapshots we captured from the training!

Our long-term volunteers will be departing on their six-month or one-year Quests throughout the month of August. Good luck to everyone, we know you will return to the United States with some amazing experiences under your belts, and we can’t wait to hear about your time abroad.

To hear more about what a United Planet pre-departure training weekend is like, take a look at this video from one of our 2011 sessions.

When you volunteer abroad long-term, you get the kind of cultural immersion and depth of relationships that you just can’t experience in a few short weeks. For more information about long-term volunteering with United Planet, visit our website! Our next group of volunteers will be doing their training weekend this December and departing in January of 2014…and you could be one of them. If you enroll in a Long-term Quest before August 23, 2013, you’re eligible for an early bird discount!
