“Every Human Is Part Of A Community”: Long-term Volunteers Share Their Stories

August 20, 2013United Planet

Our most recent group of long-term volunteers returned from their pre-departure training weekend in New Hampshire just a couple of weeks ago.  Now, most of them are just arriving in their destination countries, starting their incredible 6-month or 1-year long journeys! We sat down with a few long-term volunteers during the training weekend to discuss their reasons for volunteering abroad long-term, their expectations and apprehensions about being away from home for so long, and what they’re looking forward to about their United Planet Quests. We’ve shared excerpts from their interviews below!

Long-term volunteering provides volunteers with a sense of community and cultural appreciation that can only be achieved through extended cultural immersion. Although it’s a big decision to move halfway around the world for so many months, it’s a valuable and transforming experience, and we haven’t met a long-term volunteer yet who didn’t feel their life had been changed in a big way!

If you think this unique experience is for you, we’re offering $300 off all Long-term Quests until August 23, 2013. Click below to find out more about how you can get involved in your own Long-term Quest!
