Congratulations Andrea Taylor of Joplin, Missouri for receiving the most votes for her photo submission! Her winning photo depicts Andrea standing among some of the youth in her volunteer community during her Quest to Tanzania. She included the following quote by Winston Churchill: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life my what we give.” Congratulations, Andrea, on winning the 2014 Photo Contest!
In addition, we would like to congratulate the two Runner-Ups who were chosen at random from the top ten photos with the most votes. The Runner-Up winners were Morgan Longland of Nashville, TN and Morgan Ridley of San Jose, CA! By a happy coincidence, we can say congratulations, Morgans!
Morgan L’s photo features her with some of the children in the community she volunteered at during her Quest to Tanzania. She included the following quote by Helen Keller in her caption: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
Morgan R’s photo submission features a young boy named Will who Morgan volunteered with during his China Summer Teaching Quest. In his caption, Morgan describes the moment, saying, “to me this photo shows the close relationships that I gained and grew to become what felt like my students were my very own children. This is Will, he was truly one of the smartest and closest to my heart. I miss him dearly.”
We would also like to recognize all of the top ten photos that made the Leader Board since they each had an equal chance of being selected as a Runner-Up winner. Every entry was unique in its own way, and captured how different each individual’s Quest experience can be. And without further ado, here are the remaining eight submissions that cracked the top ten (in no order):
Thank you, alumni and volunteers, for submitting your photos and sharing these incredible moments with us! Many of your captions included descriptive stories and intriguing facts about your picture, and while we could not include them all in this post, we invite you to visit the 2014 Photo Contest Pinterest Board and Facebook Album which we have put together to showcase your entries! In addition, we would like to thank everyone who participated in the contest, friends, family and otherwise, who helped share your photos and spread the mission of United Planet. We consider all of this involvement a huge success that would not be possible without you.
Finally, since this year’s contest was extremely close, we encourage you to look ahead to next year’s photo contest! Have your camera ready, and be sure to take it with you on your next adventure abroad or even during a volunteer event in your local community!
