The Power of United Planet Alumni: Lindsay and Melinda

July 9, 2019United Planet

Building a more united planet goes beyond the places you visit. The people you meet and spend time with create the experience. In the case of Lindsay and Melinda, it’s the people back home that made the difference!  Lindsay (pictured) formerly volunteered in Nepal and Tanzania in 2017 and 2014, respectively. Now, she is a United Planet alumni and with that, holds the power to mentor other volunteers traveling abroad.

Enter in, Melinda, mother of a soon-to-be volunteer going to Japan. It just so happens that both Melinda and Lindsay live 5 minutes away from each other in Honolulu, HI! Lindsay was able to share her experience with United Planet and offer some sage advice for traveling, such as drinking a lot of water to help your digestive system adjust to a new diet, or your host family being your greatest source of info, advocates, and friends. Not only was she able to offer some neat travel tips, but Lindsay also helped put Melinda’s mind at ease when it came to our programs!

It’s a small world and it’s led to these two having a conversation about United Planet, Hawaii, and United Planet in Hawaii! Yes, you read that right. All plans to develop a program in Hawaii are in the speculative stages but it is definitely worth tuning in for. You’ll hear it here first!

This is the power of United Planet alumni. Sharing our own walks of life is one of the best ways to build bridges. These two are a great example of it!
