Sui On “Anthony” Wong has just finished volunteering in Japan for a week. Being from Hong Kong, Anthony goes to school in the United Kingdom and now he can say he was a United Planet volunteer in Japan! These are his words below on the joy of working with the youth as part of the children and education quest! Without further ado, Sui On “Anthony” Wong on his time in Japan:
During the week working with those lovely children in the local Kindergarten, it was so good to have such a great opportunity to play with them and look after them. I enjoyed the time so much in Japan and feel that it is too short for only participating a week.
What I enjoyed most about my Volunteer Quest?
I enjoyed everything that I experienced while volunteering in Japan. Firstly, talking about the city that I went to, Okazaki is a city which is full of historical background and fascinating history behind it. At the weekend, I had a chance to visit Okazaki Castle and several temples, which were an excellent opportunity for me to experience and learn the traditional culture in Japan. Surly I enjoyed the city tour and feel so pleased to visit some places in Okazaki.
Secondly, being a volunteer in the local Kindergarten is one of the most meaningful things that I have to participate once in my life. The children seemed to be very enthusiastic and energetic when they saw a young adult playing with them! It was such an unforgettable experience to stay with them and have a lesson together. On the day that they had a swimming lesson, I also joined with them, playing water with them, and I got very wet, but the children loved to see me get so wet and they were laughing so loud. It was my pleasure to let them find great fun on me! Children are lovely, especially if you treat them as your sibling.
Finally, I enjoyed so much staying with my host family! The family members looked after me so well. They bought T-shirts and stationery as a gift and treated me as their son, and I helped them back to clean the dishes and have fun with their children. So I really appreciated and enjoyed the time in Japan because of those happy experiences.
It sounded like a wonderful experience to volunteer with kids and immerse into Japanese culture! Thank you, Anthony!
