April 6, 2021United Planet

Every country has its own beauty, and today we’re going to talk about 10 reasons why you should volunteer in Costa Rica. As we know your purpose besides volunteering and leaving your impact in a community is to get immersed in a new culture. Get ready to start planning your new volunteer experience in Costa Rica.

United Planet aims to unite the planet creating a global community and that’s why it offers you a variety of projects in this destination and depends in the length of the program you choose:

  • Costa Rica Short- term quests
  • Costa Rica Long- term quests

Now, we start with the 10 reasons why you should volunteer in Costa Rica:

1. Be delighted by its varied food

Costa Rica has influences from different gastronomies around the world. You can taste Spanish, African, Mesoamerican, Chinese flavors and even more. The most popular dish is called “Pico de Gallo” which is made of a mix of rice, bean, vegetables and of course fried plantains.

 2. Life as pura vida (What is it?)

“Pura vida” is a term you will hear a lot of times, but what does it mean? This term means the way of life in this country. Costa Ricans use this term to say hello, to say goodbye, to say how they are doing, even to refer to themselves. It’s one of the world’s happiest countries in the world and that’s definitely related to pura vida.

3. Live in a country where most the energy comes from renewable sources

According to the latest report by the National Centre for Energy Control, Costa Rica generated 99.15% of its electricity with renewable energy sources in 2019. Even more, Costa Rica aims to be carbon neutral by 2021, they really care about the environment.

4. Watch the sunrise and sunset from the coast in the same day

Have you ever thought about watching both? Well Costa Rica is between two oceans, so you have the opportunity to travel from one coast to the other. You can watch the sunrise from the Caribbean Sea and go for the sunset in the Pacific Ocean. With this in mind, there is no way you can miss this experience in Costa Rica.

5. Full of adventure activities

In this country, you can do anything or do everything. From surfing, diving, kayaking, ziplining to hiking, there is no way you can get involved in adventures. In addition to this, Costa Rica has good weather all over the year and that allows you to be part of any of these activities.

6. Costa Rica is the pioneer of Ecotourism

With 25% of the landmass protected, national parks and reserves, Costa Rica protects its biodiversity. This country contains 6% of the world’s biodiversity. In fact, ecotourism allows you to experience contact with nature in a responsible way.

7. Art even in the banknotes

In Costa Rica, you can find plenty of art in different museums like the National Museum of Costa Rica and the Museum of Jade. As we previously stated, this country has its biodiversity at top of its mind and that’s why you can find banknotes with colorful designs representing it.

Do you want white, black or pink sand? Do you want to surf or just relax in the waves? Costa Rica has around 800 miles of coastline, so there is a spot for everyone. It’s your time to discover because you can find the best beaches in secluded areas.

9. It’s located in a blue zone

There are five regions in the world called blue zones and one of them is Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. So, what is a blue zone? It’s a place where its inhabitants live to over 100 years old. The secret is to have a strong bond with family, remain active and live with a strong purpose. Furthermore, diet also has an impact on it.

10. One of the best coffee

Last but not least, Costa Rica is one of the biggest exporters of coffee in the world. You can find it everywhere and even for free. Costa Ricans are looking for and applying the best techniques to produce coffee with the least impact. The only type of coffee that is allowed to be produced is Arabica because it’s one of the highest standards for coffee.
