At United Planet, we work closely with you to tailor your journey to your interests and passions, so it’s challenging to describe the typical day of every United Planet volunteer. However, each Quest focuses on authentic cultural immersion and sustainable volunteer work alongside a local community. Thought the details may vary, we’ve compiled an overview of what an average day on your Quest might look like!
After breakfast with your host family, you head to your project site, a daycare, and even the bus ride there is a little daily adventure as you watch the city go by through the windows. The locally run center provides children with attention and assistance to develop healthy social skills. You and the staff have organized a painting activity for today, and the kids enjoy it so much that it takes up most of the morning. The remaining bit of time is just enough for a quick round of charades before you help the daycare staff get the children ready for lunch.
In the afternoon, you play some games outside with the children before putting them down for a nap. While they’re sleeping, you and the daycare staff hang up the paintings the children made. Afterwards, there’s some time for singing and dancing before their parents pick them up.
It’s been a busy day, so once dinner with your host family rolls around, you enjoy the delicious meal and having some time to relax. Later in the evening, you go to a nearby cafe to plan your sightseeing and travels for the upcoming weekend. There is an excursion included with your Quest, but it’s not till next weekend so you’ve decided to do an additional side trip to make the most of your free time while you’re abroad. Soon it’s time for bed – you’ll need to be rested for another full day tomorrow.
While we focused on a Daycare Quest in this post, there are many options for you to choose from. We’ll help you decide which country and project will be the best match based on both your interests and our partnerships with local communities.
Our volunteers who focus on Children and Education work in daycares and schools, assist staff with daily tasks, lead fun learning activities for the children, and teach English and other subjects.
Our Environmental Sustainability volunteers work on issues such as wildlife protection, reforestation, nature conservation efforts, and community outreach.
Finally, our Global Health volunteers observe and work alongside local doctors in general medicine, dental care, physical therapy, speech therapy, and more.
Would you like some more detailed information about what your particular Quest in particular will be like? Give us a call at (617) 267-7763. We’d love to chat with you about your journey.
