Happy National Volunteer Week!
This year marks the 40th anniversary of National Volunteer Week, one week out of the year that is dedicated to recognizing the difference made by volunteers throughout the country. It is one week out of the year that encourages us to take notice of the hard work that others selflessly contribute in order to promote positive social change in their respective communities.
During this week, everyday, ordinary people are honored for creating extraordinary change in their communities and for inspiring others to get involved and do the same. By working together, volunteers collectively and more effectively generate greater social change and gradually eliminate poverty and oppression found within their communities.
Points of Light, the volunteer organization that launched National Volunteer Week in 1974, appoints about 4 million volunteers to 30 million hours of service every year. Extraordinary numbers made possible with the organization’s affiliates and partnerships with thousands of nonprofits and corporations.
Our mission here at United Planet is to create a world in which all people understand, respect, and support one another through volunteer work and civil service. We fully support National Volunteer week and would like to single handedly thank everyone who has volunteered with our organization and hope to inspire others to volunteer as well, whether it is in your hometown or across the globe.
